Duterte Legacy Summit highlights DOH efforts on setting Maximum Retail Price for high-cost medicines

The DOH Pharmaceutical Division expresses its gratitude to the leadership and concern for poor and vulnerable Filipino patients shown by President Rodrigo Duterte with the passage of two landmark Executive Orders which set maximum retail price to 120 high cost medicines.

In the recently concluded “Duterte Summit Legacy” held on May 31, 2022 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III highlighted the accomplishments of the DOH in bringing down medicine prices along with significant milestones in implementing the Universal Healthcare Law, modernizing government hospitals and establishing Malasakit Centers nationwide amid the challenges of responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Executive Orders on the MRP signed by Duterte on February 2020 and December 2021 cut the cost of high cost drugs for hypertension, diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), end-stage renal disease, and other chronic conditions up to 93%.
One of the beneficiaries of the implementation of MRP is Liberty Calla, a kidney transplantee for 15 years, who was able to extend her sincerest gratitude to the national government.
“Taos puso po akong nagpapasalamat sa iyo, Pangulong Duterte, sa legasiya na iniwan mo sa amin na nagbigay ng ginhawa at pagpapahalaga sa sektor ng mga may-sakit. Nawa itoý magsilbing gabay at pag-asa nating lahat na may gobyerno tayong may malasakit at pagmamahal sa bawat Pilipino”.
